Sailing alone versus sailing as crew on my partner's boat...such a difference! ⇩ Join the wonderful support crew that makes these videos possible and get instant access to behind the scene footage, regular real time updates and even join some of the most magic moments of this journey during a live feed ⇩ ► YOUTUBE CHANNEL MEMBERSHIP https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkYfFeySHGN4DPrOc9So7PA/join ► PATREON http://www.patreon.com/WhiteSpotPirates ⇩ Wanna buy me a drink or a treat for Boga? ⇩ ► PAY PAL https://www.paypal.me/whitespotpirates **** Join me on an inspiring journey that began with buying and refitting my Reinke Super 10 sailboat called KARL. Facing the challenges of solo sailing as a female sailor, I navigated the highs and lows of single-handed sailing while tackling DIY boat repair projects, from engine fixes to full boat refits on a budget. My life aboard was a mix of adventure and reflection, shaping an independent woman’s story of resilience, personal growth, and embracing the sailing lifestyle. Along the way, I became an ocean conservation activist with In Mocean, stumbled across my dog Boga, and discovered the joys and challenges of sailing with a dog. Now, I’m exploring a new chapter, having jumped aboard my partner’s Hallberg Rassy Rasmus with Boga and his Australian Kelpie, Jango. Together, we face the unique dynamics and challenges of sailing as a couple, balancing off-grid life, sustainable sailing, and the demands of long-term cruising. If you’re interested in remote sailing adventures, authentic sailing stories, and the realities of living on a sailboat, this channel offers a glimpse into the world of DIY projects, the sailing lifestyle, and life’s transformative moments on the water. Follow along for inspiring stories that reflect on the beauty of sailing, personal growth, and chasing dreams—one wave at a time. And always remember: if I can do it, you can do it, too! 👉 Binge watch my solo sailing adventure from the beginning https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXRq1t-_HOXvL6L6lGac5YAloge4jiLRA ⇩ More about my journey with my sailboat SV Karl @WhiteSpotPirates ⇩ ► INSTAGRAM http://www.instagram.com/WhiteSpotPirates ► FACEBOOK http://www.facebook.com/WhiteSpotPirates ► MY BOAT KARL http://whitespotpirates.com/untie-the-lines/my-boat-karl ⇩ Watch the full movie "Untie The Lines" ⇩ Download or stream the full movie with background info about my journey, interviews with my friends and family and unseen footage at http://www.UntieTheLines.com ***** Thanks to everybody who has supported the creation of these video and has shared this epic adventure with me so far. Coral Spawning was first scientifically witnessed 30 years ago by several marine biologists working on the Great Barrier Reef. It's Mother Nature's way of maintaining a consistently robust coral gene pool. Predicting when the coral spawing will occur is not an exact science but does rely on several environmental cues. The ocean temperature needs to be 26 degrees celcius or above for the month before for the gametes to mature. Secondly, they will generally reproduce 4 to 6 nights after the full moon in November or December when there is little tidal movement. Thirdly, it will generally be about 2-3 hours after the sun sets, because it's nice and romantic!, but more importantly most of the plankton feeders will be asleep, giving the eggs more time to settle to the relative safety of the reef. Peter Harburg’s RP 100 Black Jack continues to show good form in her preparations for the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, winning the SOLAS Big Boat Challenge on Sydney Harbour last week. In September this year the Bow Caddy Media was given the opportunity to join some of the luminaries of Australian sailing aboard Black Jack (including Tom Slingsby, Chris Nicholson and Tom Addis) for their early work-up campaign in the Whitsundays under skipper Mark Bradford. So, as a taster in the lead-up to the Boxing Day start of the great race south, here’s an on-board view of how the action unfolds on Black Jack when the breeze is up.
Cruising sailors tend to prefer things like swimming from their boat; Racing sailors prefer the water on top of their boat instead; They will spend as much money on sails as their boat is worth; They will sail so close together you could jump to the next boat; They will remove their dodger so they can fully enjoy all that water on top of their boat; They will crawl onto a pitching foredeck to lash down a sail because they don’t have a furler; They will climb onto the boom to install a reef line so they don’t have to slow the boat down; They will fly a spinnaker in 20 knots of wind or more; They won’t even bother taking down their own spinnaker, and will just let God do it; And they will do all of this whether it’s day or night, regardless of whether they can see or not; All for getting their boat’s name engraved on some stupid trophy, and getting some yellow flags to boast about their accomplishments, and for some unforgettable moments with friends - priceless!!!
