Le vele vengono tagliate "allunate" per aumentarne la superficie a parità di altezza d'albero e perché una forma allunata consente prestazioni migliori. Nelle imbarcazioni a vela moderne l'allunamento è soprattutto una caratteristica della randa, ed è sostenuto da apposite "stecche". Anticamente le vele quadre erano spesso allunate ai quattro lati. allascare: (v.) (Manovre) to ease, to loosen, to give away Allentare la tensione su un cavo o slegarlo rilasciandolo completamente. Si dice anche per una vela, come conseguenza dell'allascare una scotta che la trattiene. E' equivalente al termine "lascare". Il contrario è "cazzare" o "tesare". altura: (s.f.)
