Azzurra’s 1983 debut turned Italian sailing into a national passion. Backed by icons like Agnelli and the Aga Khan, it laid the foundation for today’s Italian America's Cup campaigns—culminating in Naples hosting the 38th edition. The Louis Vuitton 38th America's Cup will be defended in Naples, Italy by five-time America's Cup winner, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron represented by their team, Emirates Team New Zealand; and the British team led by Sir Ben Ainslie, Athena Racing, as the official Challenger of Record. Here is a quick little video I did while out sailing on a 2015 Catana Bali 4.3 in the Virgin Islands. I hadn't sailed a Bali 4.3 yet, and was impressed with how well she sailed in the 8 knots of breeze we had. The owner's cruising plans have changed, and have decided to move on. I was very impressed with not only the layout of the boat, but the overall condition. 3D printing small plastic hardware parts for small boats is getting easier and easier. Today we tested a 3d printed stopper ball using just PLA plastic and the results were surprising. We're confident this would outlast the useful life of the line. These small stopper balls are most often used for marking control lines like differentiating between a downhaul and and reef line for example. We're making these available in 4 colors on our website now. https://bandbyachtdesigns.com/stopperball
The figure 8 knot is one of if not the most used sailing stoppers knots. It is easy to tie, provides a decent sized stopper and is relatively easier to untie after load has been applied. For a more detailed tutorial follow the link below. https://youtu.be/jV99J9nmG1g When tying the figure 8 knot it is important pull it really tight, with stiff modern ropes the knot can have a tendency to untie itself if it is only loosely tightened. If you have mastered this knot and would like to learn more the following playlist has more knots for you to know and master. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMoCfFBA9IMUcOoZy5QT-o66DM8uHukkH If you want to know even more knots why not pick up a copy of the definitive book on knots. The Ashley Book of Knot has approximately 3900 different kinds, from simple hitches to “Marlinspike Seamanship.” Mr. Ashley has included almost everything there is to know about them. Precisely named and classified (some new ones for the first time officially), they can be easily found in the big index. He tells when they appeared, something about their history, and what they are good for. . https://amzn.to/3fkisle We hope you enjoyed todays video, thanks for stopping by and supporting Bottom up Boats, as an amazon associate we get commission from associated sales.
