These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Still foldable, of course, this new trimaran is logically much more modern than its predecessor, with an added touch of comfort and agility. The daggerboards are fitted in the floats, freeing up the central hull. The companionway hatch has three positions and can be supplemented with a sprayhood and sun awning. Down below, thanks to two levels of chines, the 8.50 offers a fairly decent headroom of six feet (1.82 m). There are proper berths, a fixed galley, a toilet, and plenty of clever storage space.
