The path out of the Strangford lough narrows on the way to the Irish Sea keeps any captain on their toes. With the tide racing almost as fast as the wind and plenty of rocks and depth changes you always have the chance to see some whirlpools while working to windward. The team on J109 GTR watch the waves build as the rudder was whipped from left to right as we past once of the larger whirlpools on the way to the strangford lough bar.
Step 1 — Introduce the mat Let your dog sniff it, reward any interest. Make it a positive place. Step 2 — Watch for potty signs Sniffing, circling, pacing — that’s your cue. Step 3 — Guide your dog to the mat Every single time. Keep your cue consistent: “go potty”. Step 4 — Reward immediately Praise during, treat right after. This is where the magic happens. Step 5 — Add a scent marker Put a tiny bit of your dog’s own pee on the mat the first days. It helps a lot. Step 6 — Build a routine Take your dog to the mat after sleep, food, play, and excitement. Step 7 — Transition to the boat Move the mat to its final spot onboard once the habit sticks. #dog #cutedog #sailingdog #circumnavigation #pottytraining
