(Alberatura e vele) bowsprit, bowspit Asta orizzontale (o leggermente inclinata) posta a prua dell'imbarcazione e che fuoriesce notevolmente dalla prua stessa. Negli antichi velieri al bompresso si fissavano (muravano) i punti di mura delle vele di prua, dette "fiocchi". Nelle imbarcazioni moderne il bompresso è mobile (cioè retrattile) e si trova quasi esclusivamente su particolari barche da regata (sia piccole che grandi) allo scopo di aumentare le dimensioni del triangolo di prua (distanza tra albero e strallo) e poter quindi murare all'estremo del bompresso grandi vele di strallo (genoa, gennaker, spinnaker, etc.). boliniero: (agg.)
