As the Vinson prepares to set sail back to South Georgia, here at KM Yachtbuilders we just turned the hull of her future sister boat. Most aluminum boats are built upside down to facilitate welding. Turning the hull up is a significant milestone: It is the equator of the building process and, once straightened, not only starts to look like a real boat but opens the door to further work. The vessel gradually comes to life. Skip Novak was there for such a special moment. The launching of the second Pelagic 77' is expected to take place within a year. 📸 @wearegoroka @guyfleury_photography
Maverick 440 Bossa Nova filmed on anchor outside of Hope Town Harbour in the Bahamas in Feb 2015. The draft of the Maverick 440 is just on 1 meter / or just over 3 ft, so it has the shallowest draft of any fixed keel cruising catamaran in its class. You can see this as the yacht is in just on 4ft of water. The shallow draft if you access to move anchorages, more locations, and a higher safety margin when you sailing around in the tropical islands.
One of the positives of hauling out in Trinidad is that you're relatively safe from hurricanes because it's rare for one to come far enough south to directly hit the island. That being said, we do still experience storms that are a result of weather conditions far north of us. Last night we experienced one of the worst storms we've had since arriving which was directly related to Tropical Storm Philippe which has just made landfall in Barbuda. Luckily the tent covering Liger held up well, in part because it was built with storms like this in mind.
