On Sunday, 9 October 2016 racing was cancelled at Royals as gale force northerlies caused damage around Melbourne and the RYCV Marina. Winds of up to 46kts gusting to almost 60kts were recorded at Fawkner Beacon and peaked around 2.00pm, which resulted in several mooring lines letting go as yachts lurched around in the wind and up to one metre waves that lashed against the marina. YT-Episode 8 - It’s not all sunsets 🌅 and fair winds 🌬️ We were lucky enough to find the last place in a marina as a Mistral storm came down from France and across the Balearic Islands/Sardinia. 65 knots (74 mph) of wind was reported by those out at Sea. We saw 45 knots (51 mph) on the North East coast of Mallorca. Being moored up in a marina we were relatively comfortable and very thankful to have not been at anchor or on the water. We had 6 lines on, snapped one line and will probably have to replace a couple of others due to chaffing on the rusted bollards, but we are all safe and sound.
