We are celebrating two massive milestones this weekend! Not only is it Memorial Day weekend, but it’s officially our 3-year anniversary as a sailing couple. To celebrate, we traded our usual dock for the historic, resilient shores of Galveston Beach, Texas. In this episode, we’re remembering the roots of the island and the holiday. From the solemn Civil War origins of Memorial Day to the Galveston Historic Pleasure Pier, this island is a monument to the human spirit. Of course, no trip to the coast is complete without savoring the lifestyle. We’re taking you along to our favorite local seafood grills right on the Seawall to enjoy some fresh Gulf catch, talk about what it really is like to slow down and enjoy the present by chasing your own version of "nirvana." Ending: Those that we're remembering are beloved friends and family in the past few months - R.I.P! Whether you’re a long-time sailor or sitting at home dreaming of the day you can finally cast off the lines—this one is for you. Clear skies and smooth sailing, Rodney & Cyndi ⛵✨ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 👉 SUBSCRIBE to follow our journey: https://youtube.com/@SailingIntoNirvana 🎵 Copyrighted music licensed from Lickd. 🪢 Sunday Boat Tip [2/52] 🪢 I think you would be surprised by the number of boats we see with flapping sails as they try to motor against the wind 😬 I’m saying you should stop this now! Not only will you save the sails to last longer, you will also ✨ Increase your boat speed ✨ Decrease your fuel consumption ✨ Make the boat go smoother in the waves ✨ Less noise Motor sailing can have its benefits, and even though we prefer sailing it would be lying to say we never give a little support with the diesel engine, especially sailing behind islands where the wind is usually all over the place. By giving a little extra push with the engine we can go higher up towards the wind or sail over choppy waves in conditions that would normally be to light. If you still want to go dead straight into the wind? DROP YOUR SAILS!! They are not doing ANYTHING good by just flopping like that! Share this to someone who you think should be a little kinder to their sails 😉
