Pour cela, un nœud en huit est confectionné sur la corde, puis le bout de corde est passé dans les deux boucles du baudrier et enfin ce bout de corde est passé de nouveau dans le premier nœud en huit dont il suit scrupuleusement le parcours en sens inverse. S'il est, pour cet usage, moins facile à dénouer en cas de forte chute que le nœud de chaise (complété par un demi nœud de pêcheur simple — ou double — pour éviter qu'il ne se desserre), le nœud en huit s'avère plus simple à réaliser et à vérifier.
