Pedro Fernandes de Queirós, navegador português, em 1606 foi o inventor da palavra Austrália e o primeiro europeu a chegar a Vanuatu, no Pacífico Sul. Dois feitos que se cruzam por acaso. Vanuatu, país independente desde 1980, antes chamado Novas Hébridas, foi visitado primeiramente pelo navegador português Pedro Fernandes de Queiroz em 1606, que ao chegar à ilha de Espírito Santo acreditou estar na Austrália, assim inventando o nome do maior país da Oceânia. Foi também ele o primeiro europeu a contactar com as tribos melanésias locais de #Vanuatu. Ao chegar à ilha vindo de oeste e sendo já esperada uma grande terra no hemisfério austral, antes descoberta pelo lado este e norte por expedições portuguesas, ele nomeou a ilha como Austrialia do Espírito Santo. Na época a dinastia filipina em Portugal e Espanha era dos Habsburgo, da Áustria, assim também homenageando a coroa vigente. Hoje em dia existem duas estátuas dele em Sydney e Camberra, e a maior ilha de Vanuatu é chamada Espiritu Santo, em sua homenagem. Vem conhecer este herói da história marítima mundial, estudado nas escolas de Vanuatu, e homenageado nas ruas da Austrália, mas tão pouco conhecido em Portugal.

Ebbene sì. Oggi è lunedì. Quindi riprende la settimana, riprende il lavoro e riprendono le chiamate con i clienti. Dopo una giornata produttiva e piena di buone notizie lavorative, prendiamo il gommone e andiamo a fare un bagno. Planiamo a 20 nodi verso una spiaggia bianca e fine fine, ormeggiamo il gommone tirandolo sulla spiaggia e ci tuffiamo. Che mondo laggiù e che vita! Pesci di tutti i tipi! Eravamo abituati a occhiate e pesciolini, qui abbiamo colori, dimensioni e forme incredibili. Ci divertiamo a scoprire i fondali della baia subito sud di dove siamo ormeggiati e torniamo a preparare cena. Un lunedì ordinario di una vita straordinaria. Buon lavoro a tutti, -4 al weekend! In this video series we are pointing North to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska to go swimming up in the Arctic Ocean. Why? Because its there. Plus, it will make a great adventure for our growing boys who are learning how to dream BIG. Why not come along for the ride? Sometimes we live on our sailboat, other time we explore Terra Firma with our OVRLND rig. Either way, its always an adventure! In this video we get some fresh tires in Grand Prairie, Alberta before heading up the Alaska Highway into the Northern Canadian Rockies. Along the way we find an abandoned campground where we setup for the night. We didn’t spend too long because the bugs drove us further North to Muncho Lake. We really enjoyed the campground at Muncho Lake. The water wasn’t too cold for a refreshing cold bath and there are so many amazing trails nearby. We chose to jump on the Stone Sheep’s Trail that heads up into the mountains near the Sentinel Range. This was a great hike to burn off some of the boy’s energy and after we relaxed just a bit further North in the Laird River Hot Springs. It was only $10 CAD for the whole family to spend the afternoon at the hot springs. If you find yourself passing through the Northern Canadian Rockies, this is a must do! We were able to pack so much into that one day that we decided to push a little further up the ALCAN before dinner. We discovered some tucked away camping along the Laird River just West of Watson Lake. After some great rest listening to the water flow past all night, we pointed West to the Alaska border with British Columbia. Thanks for watching!
