Built in Brixham, Devon in 1908, Golden Vanity has had many roles. A family yacht, racing across the Atlantic, and training young people. In 2020, First Class Sailing took on Golden Vanity. She is now used for RYA courses, holidays and available for private charter. Golden Vanity is a class of sailing trawler known as a Mumble Bee, a 38ft Gaff Cutter. She offers traditional sailing adventures with great comfort below decks. Whether you want to learn to sail or enjoy a sailing adventure First Class Sailing can help. Sail Golden Vanity for a weekend of fun or join a longer voyage sailing along the coast of Dorset, Devon and Cornwall. Join us for Falmouth Classics or the Paimpol Sea Shanty Festival in Brittany, France. Sail a classic boat and learn traditional sailing techniques. Learning to sail on the RYA Competent Crew course is quite different from modern yachts. She is all wood and, unlike our other boats, there are no winches on board (apart from an anchor capstan) which means the sails all go up by hand. Plenty of teamwork and a good technique, which we will show you, make this possible. We also offer the RYA Day Skipper course on Golden Vanity. Ideal for those that have completed the Day Skipper on a modern yacht or have some traditional boat experience. Learn the sailing techniques required of a gaff-rigged boat from our Instructor. Giorno 19 - SICILIA L’ondata di vento e pioggia prevista da ormai qualche giorno sta facendo il suo ingresso in scena, esibendosi in tutta la sua imponente maestosità. Noi, che di cognome facciamo Prudenza, siamo pronti già da due giorni. Perciò questa mattina mettiamo nuovamente i piedi dentro a delle calzature chiuse e ci avventuriamo in paese, con sulla testa un cartello al neon che dice a gran voce “forestieri”. Dopo un paio di episodi tragicomici con i lavoratori locali dovuti a usi e costumi lontani dai nostri, torniamo a bordo per assicurarci che gli ormeggi lavorino bene e che i parabordi svolgano correttamente la loro funzione. Prima di pranzo facciamo un salto nella spiaggia libera subito fuori dalla Marina e non appena ci affacciamo oltre il muretto che costeggia il lido si figurano di fronte a noi delle onde che con una potenza incredibile si infrangono contro la battigia, spargendo spuma candida in ogni dove. Memore di anni di infanzia a giocare laddove gli altri bambini subivano con timore il ruggito del mare, corriamo a perdifiato verso quel manto bianco che si espande e si ritira a ritmo di un profondo respiro. Giochiamo tra le onde, appena prima della risacca, con serenità e divertimento. Per un momento infinito i nostri cuori tornano a essere quelli candidi di due bambini, che giocano con spensieratezza sulla riva del mare. Il video di oggi parla di suoni.
