The Earthling E40 Hybrid Power Catamaran. We met the Earthlink team recently in Barcelona to take a look at the innovative systems on the E40  E-Propulsion Power Cat. John McGettigan motored the boat from Genoa to Barcelona (650 nm) single handed. ▫️ What do you think? ▫️ 10 Key Points: A cutting-edge hybrid-electric catamaran with top engineering standards. . Designed by @johnmcgettigan66, it's powered by twin Molabo electric motors and a 45kWh lithium battery system supported by a 2kW solar array. . On battery alone, Earthling can cruise silently for up to 40 nautical miles at lower speeds, or 20nm at 8 knots, and 18nm at 10 knots—the "sweet spot". . Two diesel-powered 8.5kW Whisperpower Genverters provide hybrid range extension and can run on biofuel. . Hulls are ultra-light (12m/3.6 tonnes) and based on the Stealth 36 powercat design, built with carbon composites for max efficiency. . Large 600mm propellers spin slowly (400–600rpm), optimised for quiet, efficient cruising at 10 knots. . Full recharge takes just 2 hours from shore power or 3 days from solar at anchor or at the dock. . The entire boat is run by E-Thos, a smart remote-control system that manages power, navigation, and amenities with real-time alerts. . Interior is single-level, open-plan, with smart use of space and 5 berths—perfect for weekend getaways . The E-40 aims to set a benchmark in eco-friendly boating: silent, clean, energy-efficient, and ready for the next generation of boaters. . #electric #hybrid #yacht

The first week of the season ending frosties regatta a strangford lough yacht club got of the a lively start with 15 to 25 knots keeping the sailor busy. J109 Going to Red was blasting across the bottom reach when the out core of the tack line broke. The dynemma core shot forward with the tack line rising about 6 meters before the core locked in tight in the clutch. The team kept calm and kept the kite flying while they dropped the jib before cutting the rope to drop the kit. Another example why you always need a sharp knife handy while racing to ensure that you can get out of any trouble where ropes get locked in and will not run. The crew did a great job of staying calm before racing on to victory in race 1.
