In 1996, an incredible incident unfolded at a zoo when a female gorilla named Binti Jua demonstrated remarkable bravery and compassion. A 3-year-old boy accidentally fell into her encampment, putting him in danger. Without hesitation, Binti Jua carefully picked up the child and carried him to the entrance of her enclosure. Growling at any approaching gorilla, she shielded the young boy from harm until help arrived. This heartwarming act of heroism showcased the deep emotional connection that can exist between humans and wildlife, leaving a lasting impression on all who witnessed it. We went freediving and snorkeling one afternoon off of Shell Beach in La Jolla, California. The water was above 70 degrees which is amazing for California.
