Maserati Multi70, che sulla linea del via ha sofferto leggermente le condizioni di vento moderato, nell’avventurarsi più al largo a nord di Tenerife ha costruito la rimonta nella zona di accelerazione tra le isole, e con l’ingresso nella brezza costante dell’Oceano, intorno all’alba del secondo giorno, ha dato il meglio di sé, superando Snowflake e Zoulou e stabilendosi al comando della flotta. “Quelle della seconda notte dopo la partenza sono state ore intense, con venti nodi e velocità pazzesche,” riferisce da bordo Giovanni Soldini, “Abbiamo toccato picchi di 37 nodi con onde di due tre metri. Siamo dove volevamo essere, in controllo sugli avversari, la strada è lunga ma noi non molliamo”. All’ultimo aggiornamento delle 12:00 UTC del 10 gennaio, la flotta dei tre MOD70 ha percorso già più di mille miglia e si trova a meno di duemila miglia dal traguardo.
