For centuries sailors have navigated their way across the oceans by celestial navigation or nautical astronomy - using a sextant with the sun, moon, planets, and stars. For the modern sailor, it is essential when crossing oceans as back up to the modern and much relied upon electronic navigation. If you are curious about how to use a sextant or have taken the RYA Yachtmaster or Ocean Theory courses, or are even self-taught, our celestial sailing weekends are ideal offering both an introduction and a refresher. All are welcome. A big advantage is that you learn in a small group, under the supervision of an expert instructor. The weekends involve sailing along the south side of the Isle of Wight and back up through the Needles. A beautiful area to sail whilst offering ample opportunity to practice using the sextant. Ve l’abbiamo già detto che siamo in cantiere? Allora vi diamo questa notiziona: domani torniamo in acqua! Dovete sapere che qui è estate praticamente per tutto l’anno. Fa caldo e più ci avviciniamo ad agosto più l’afa si fa sentire. Dormiamo con il ventilatore acceso e con il lenzuolo ai piedi del letto, per intenderci. Indovinate per quando è prevista pioggia mista a ventone? E perché avete pensato proprio a domani? 😅🫣 Onestamente non possiamo che confidare nel meteo e nel buonsenso del gruista, che giustamente ci ha detto che non può spostare il nostro appuntamento sulla base di previsioni instabili. Oggi e domani quindi ultimi aggiustamenti. Sono giorni di fuoco sia sul lavoro sia in cantiere. Quando saremo tornati a casa la vita ci sembrerà dannatamente noiosa e “solo lavorare” sembrerà una passeggiata 😂😅 Ovviamente scherzo (scherzo?) Il disclaimer per i nuovi amici che ci leggono è sempre lo stesso: scelta di vita che fai, implicazioni secondarie che accetti. Per concludere, stasera siamo stati ospiti a cena di Silvia e Giorgio, i due amici che vivono qui la maggior parte del tempo. Risotto top, vino top, dolce top. Sarà un cliché, ma ogni volta che incontriamo qualche compaesano mangiamo divinamente. Evviva i cliché quando ti riempiono la pancia di cibo buono 🍝🤌 Ci vediamo domani, con l’intervento della gru. Stay ahead of the curve and set sail with peace of mind! =========================== TRANSCRIPT So the best way to tie your plank on so you don't stub your toes and it doesn't fall off and it doesn't look crap. And it's easy! .... Around the bottom with this line and then around the stanchion and then on. Then we're gonna go around the top under itself and it's cinching around. So now you're pulling here and you're pulling here it's holding it up off the deck and it's holding it firm in two spots. Tie around here with a half inch on a bite. Same at the bottom end here. I'm going to go around the base of the stanchion and under the board again. Around the top. And tie it with a clove hitch on a bite. Just like that! Finish it with another one if you want it nice and secure. The water will run down and your toes will not stub on the underside of there.
