S/V Ruatahi started life as a 1999 Manta 40 and is now a Manta 46 catamaran for sale by owner. I worked with a famous Naval Architect (Gunboat fame amongst other things) to see if we couldn’t improve the motion and load carrying capabilities also to bump the performance up a little. The sterns have been extended, and she’s about 46’ LOA now. The rudders have been extended also to give better control. Ruatahi has many other customizations and upgrades including an extended mast, "kiwi prop" saildrives, and a Hurricane diesel hot water and heating system. What’s the latest news from our sheds in Cape Town? The deck of the new SW108#01 is now married to the hull, and our first 108' hybrid yacht is taking shape day by day! The 'dry fit' technique combines the need to keep the boat 'open' as long as possible, facilitating the assembly of elements onboard, with the need to structurally join the deck to the hull and - above all - to the bulkheads.
