The finish to Race 3 of the annual Narrows Regatta on Strangford Lough was a quick reach to the finish after the breeze picked up and pivoted 180 degrees. It was next to impossible for the J109 GTR to match it with the VX1 Sports boats which blasted past on the way back to Portaferry. The chasing VX1 where having a tough time keeping their height as the pressure built so while they were a lot faster they ended up sailing greater distance which kept GTR in the race The J109 GTR could not compete in this race but went on to take the overall series win with a consistent performance across the weekend. The fifth unit of the celebrated SW96 smart custom project is now underway at the South African shipyard. The bulkheads are finally set in place: they are full carbon infused epoxy structures with a corecell core thus weighting less than 1tons, so they can offer high sound insulation levels with no compromise on stiffness, performance, and volume. Confirming the shipyard’s ability to realize an owner’s wishes, Southern Wind is set to deliver yet another carbon fibre performance yacht. Much more is to come: stay tuned!
