Along either side of a McConaghy Multihull are large windows that run the full length of the living area. Fully retractable, they allow the galley and lounge to be enclosed or opened to the ocean breeze at the touch of a button. With the aft glass doors also retracted, the result is an exceptionally light and open space. Power catamarans have twin engines. That makes them much safer than a conventional single engined powerboat. It also makes them very manouverable. Here I am turning our Skoota 28 in circles without using the steering wheel. You can see the engines are in line, turning is achieved by putting one engine in reverse, the other in forward gear I'm not very good at it yet! In part because the engine thrust in forward is much greater than in reverse, (because the exhaust goes through the propeller), so the throttle in forward needs a delicate touch You can build your own Skoota 28 in plywood from plans by Woods Designs, see more at www.sailingcatamarans.com
