Day 5 in Tokyo. I am away from Wahine for 6 weeks, having family time and writing and working. This is my second stint in Tokyo this summer. The city is sweltering—hot, humid, relentless. But even here, in a place that never sleeps, there's value in stillness. In this reflective moment, I take a break from the motion—no meetings, no walking, no talking—just watching the river, the skyline, and letting the mind breathe. Gig Harbor Boat Works demonstrates a prototype of a new tandem rowing system that allows two rowers to face each other while rowing! Recently we had a request from a couple who enjoyed rowing and wanted a tandem sliding seat boat... but wanted to be able to see each other while both of them are rowing. That sounds like a tough request, but we enjoy 'imagineering' anything! We built a 16.5 Melonseed rowboat with tandem sliding seats, then incorporated standard aft-facing forward position with a forward-facing aft position. The result? Perfect fore and aft trim, remarkable speed excellent directional control AND the rowers can converse easily!

The idea for Sunset Sailing Tours came June 2nd 2019 20pm at Cais do Sodré, Lisboa, Portugal. Sailboats went back and forth at the harbor full of people. I could do that also! But not going back and forth at the harbor. I would do it with style sailing around the city or trips to islands.
