► Article in Special Issue N°24 Forever Green: https://www.multihulls-world.com/articles-catamaran-trimaran/refit-the-new-eldorado-for-recreational-boating ► The first catamaran from the Neo program, a completely refurbished Lagoon 620, was presented to us in Palma de Mallorca. Hull #29, dating from 2012, has spent 4 months at the Monfalcone yard in Italy undergoing a full refit carried out by the builders themselves: structural and mast inspection, bulkhead rework, replacement of engines, sails, electrics, plumbing, electronics, headlinings, upholstery, etc. Nothing escaped the Lagoon experts! What’s more, the catamaran, repainted in Star & Stipes blue, is now equipped with solar panels, a lithium battery bank, low-energy air conditioning and a wastewater treatment system. The cost of this more than complete refit (there are four levels of packs) is in the order of € 800K for a unit that trades on the second-hand market for amounts from € 1.3M. This brings the total to € 2.1M, which compares with the cost of a new, fully-loaded Lagoon 60 at around € 3.2M. A substantial difference that could well attract players in the luxury charter market. In the medium wind, you need to get the boat moving forward before accelerating. It is not easy to accelerate from a dead stop. In order to get the boat going, it's the orientation to the wind should be closer to perpendicular, but no lower than a close reach. The trick is arriving there without sliding sideways which is using a combination of the sculling and easing sheet. You are permitted by #rule42 to scull to close-hauled then you must sail the rest of the way. You begin acceleration from below close-hauled because it is more perpendicular to the wind and allows the foils to grip properly. Also, the process of adding weight and heading up optimizes the speed in which you arrive at full speed. We consider the acceleration to be one of the most important fundamentals in our sport as it teaches control that can be applied to every aspect of boat handling and speed You might notice several other nuances in the video.
