Day 11. Pretty exhausting day. The night started gusty, and we ended up hand steering most of it just to keep the boat going downwind. At some point we managed to adjust the sails and get things a bit more balanced, which helped a lot. In the morning, we set up wing on wing and decided to try a warp line to stabilize the boat. We used about 100 feet of line, a chain, and a fender… and it actually made a big difference. The boat settled down a lot more, which was a relief. Later, the wind shifted, so we had to change things up again and kept adapting as the day went on. It’s been a rough one. Five meter waves have been pretty normal, and we’ve been soaked more times than I can count from waves crashing over. Most of the day we’ve been sitting on the floor to eat, because it’s the only place that feels stable. But… we’ve also been flying. We hit a new speed record, averaging around 7 knots for most of the day, which is pretty wild. So yes, fun to go fast. But also very tiring. I won’t mind if it calms down a bit tomorrow. 🌊 ⚓ Life on the Showgirl is my journey toward one of the toughest solo sailing races on the planet: the Golden Globe Race — sailed solo, non-stop, and without modern technology.
