► Full test to discover in Multihulls World N°203. ► The head-to-head between 38 and the 380 ultimately never took place, all down to the Mistral that was coming through a little too hard, blowing at over 30 knots early on our test day we’d scheduled out of Bonifacio. So, our boat tester Brieuc Maisonneuve got to sail aboard the new Lagoon 38 in lively conditions, but the 380 remained alongside the dock. His initial reaction: “We set sail in 20 knots, gusting 30. I found the catamaran very stable despite the very short sea, and the helm was very smooth. On the downside, I wasn’t so sure about the choice of a self-tacking jib: the sail is difficult to trim at points further off the wind and lacks power when sailing close to the wind, which can result in a slightly disappointing heading. As for the comfort on board, it is exceptional for the size of the boat, and the layout of the starboard hull is a real success.” ► TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Builder: Lagoon Architect: VPLP Design Exterior design: Patrick Le Quément Interior design: Nauta Design Length: 37’4” (11.38 m) Beam: 21’10” (6.65 m) Draft 4’2” (1.26 m) Air draft: 60’8” (18.48 m) Light displacement: 22,579 lbs (10.24 t) Mainsail: 599 sq ft (55.7 m²) Self-tacking jib: 237 sq ft (22 m²) Code 0: 581 sq ft (54 m²) Motors: 2 x 29 HP Fuel: 106 US gal (400 l) Water: 79 or 132 US gal (300 or 500 l) Berths: 6 to 10 CE category: A8/B12/C16/D20 ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests!
