Allen Brothers in the UK and the Farr X2 team have been working very hard on the design of a new Rudder Cassette system exclusively for the Farr X2. Stern hung rudders were always in the design brief for two reasons, the main reason based on experience from the Mini Transat 6.5 Series class. Where Bret Perry spent 6 years in the fleet and it was a rule in the series (production) class that kick up rudders were not legal. But the hull design meant twin rudders were the only real option and in the case of an impact the rudder, gudgeons or transom would take the load and could be damaged. With under boat twin rudders in an impact can be a lot worse, leading to severe hull damage, which can lead to potential life threatening situations. So, the team put their thinking caps on to design an impact kick up system for stern hung rudders. The design team went to work and it is now a reality. A share pin designed to break at 100 kg will allow the rudder to kick upon impact. A spare pin will allow you to re set and continue on your way. " Its a safety thing" says Bret Perry. " Hitting an object anytime can be dangerous so being able to minimize the damage to the boat and stay safe as well is critical when your offshore." "With more and more objects in the water the Farr X2 impact fuse rudder cassette system provides that little bit extra peace of mind while out there performing at your best" Perry added.

The test consists of lancing handmade wooden javelins from a predetermined line at a coconut situated between 7 & 9.5m above ground level atop a pole. The coconut is divided into 5 horizontal zones, with points on a scale of 2 to 10 being allocated in an ascending amount as one’s javelin strikes & holds higher up the coconut. Normally each competitor throws 8 javelins on 5 to 7 separate occasions. The pole is lowered after each round, and the coconut is removed and taken to the judges for verification of the points gained. Fresh coconut is then hoisted. The winner is the person or team which totals the greatest number of points:

11 gennaio 2020 partenza della Cape2Rio. A bordo di Almagores 2 saranno 17 giorni di traversata, di regata, di avventure, di foto, di video. Ne ho fatto un diario che ora vi racconto 18 video dalla partenza a Cape Town all'arrivo a Rio. +15 Si apre un po il cielo malgrado ancora qualche groppi passeggeri più di pioggia che di vento. Si viaggia bene con gennaker in rotta a una media di 12 nodi. Dopo una cena con filetto al gorgonzola e patate al forno, il cielo ci regala un bellissimo tramonto con all’ultimo respiro, quando sparisce del tutto il sole nel mare, una bellissima luce verde. Il cielo si tinge poi di rosa, viola, arancione, che sembra un quadro impressionista. Ancora sotto il fascino dei colori vediamo piccoli delfini che saltano completamente fuori dell’acqua. Sembra che anche loro sono euforici del spettacolo di colori.
