Snowflakes dancing on the deck, and then – wow! Look at that plane emerging from the swirling white chaos. Taking off from a frozen airstrip, right there at the edge of the world. The cruise ship's a pretty awesome vantage point, giving us front-row seats to this arctic drama. Imagine the skill it takes to pilot a plane in these conditions. The icy runway disappearing into the blizzard. This is one serious adventure, even from the comfort of our warm cabin. This was my reaction to the first attempt at launching Freddie, after over a week of waiting past the day we were told we would be launched… We put our lives on hold to get her ready and to show up for this, not to mention getting our hopes way up that we would finally see her off land and back where she belongs, in the water… My heart was hurting and I felt frustrated… but tried to focus on positives.
