Strike 18ft sailing trimaran by Woods Designs on its first sail, so it is still unfinished, but still steers itself quite happily. It has a home built main hull and uses a beach cat for rig and outriggers You can build this boat yourself in plywood. I also have a smaller Strike 16 and a more performance oriented Strike 15. As well as dozens of other multihull designs, both power and sail, that you can build. Check out my website www.sailingcatamarans.com for more
Full test in Multihulls World N°196: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/motor/vandal-46-explorer-a-4x4-of-the-seas-in-catamaran-mode ► The Vandal Marine brand was created by Dutch manufacturer Tenderworks, who specialize in tenders for megayachts. The main idea behind the project was to bring to market a true “all-terrain” powercat, inspired by workboats and featuring an innovative design with asymmetrical hulls linked by a central foil capable of optimizing the equation that combines speed/consumption/passage though the water. The aluminum hulls are protected by impressive thick scantlings, and the welded parts throughout the deck are impressive. The 46 Explorer is fitted out in a somewhat rustic fashion, with a single, relatively spartan double cabin. However, a number of customization options, such as the fabric enclosure for the flybridge enhance the level of comfort. According to the manufacturer, at 20 knots, fuel consumption is reduced by 30%, giving a range of over 200 miles. It’s worth noting that despite the foiling design, the Vandal is still perfectly capable of taking the ground – you’re either an explorer or you’re not... A second 60-foot (18 m) model is currently under study. Full test of the Vandal 46 Explorer to appear in a forthcoming issue. ► TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: Builder: Vandal Marine Architect: Jutson Marine Design Length overall: 46’ (14 m) Waterline length: 39’ (12 m) Beam: 14’ (4.4 m) Draft: 2’6” (0.8 m) Light displacement: 26,015 lbs (11.8 t) Powertrain: 2 x 425 HP Yamaha XTO Cruising speed: 20/28 knots Max speed: 40 knots Fuel: 333 US gal (1,260 l) Water: 79 US gal (300 l) ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! When the sailing weather does not cooperate, we make up for it. We had gone out for a morning sail and returned in early afternoon due to rain and lack of wind. We stopped at Lighthouse Inn in Solomons for lunch. Monica and I enjoyed some fresh oysters on the half shell and some raw oyster shooters. Toni never had an oyster shooter so we encouraged her to try one and make a Moment in Time. See how she did.
