One of the most intimidating things for sailors and boaters pulling into Fort Lauderdale for the first time is dealing with the network of opening bridges on the Intracoastal Waterway. In Fort Lauderdale and the surrounding areas on the ICW the bridges open on a schedule with a request over the VHF radio. They monitor channel 9, and open every thirty minutes upon request. SUV runs into light pole at T with stoplight, not sure in this area how this would happen, you are on a 40 MPH side road that meets a T. Don't know how much you can see, but they really hit the pole hard, the lights at the top of the pole fell, and the SUV caved in most of their hood.
