What happens when you lose your 9โ€“5, hit rock bottom, and end up backpacking the world? For Hugo Ortega (Below Deck Season 12), that moment became the spark that changed everything. Inside a hostel in Thailand, Hugo met a yacht deckhand who showed him photos of life in the Bahamas and the Mediterranean โ€” jet skis, crystal-clear waters, and freedom at sea. Until that moment, Hugo didnโ€™t even know the job existed. That chance meeting set him on the path to becoming a yachtie, rising from deckhand to bosun to superyacht captain, and eventually creating Superyacht Sunday School to help others do the same. ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Hear his full story on Salty Podcast #71 โ€” from burnout โž backpacking โž yachtie life, and how the lessons he learned can apply to YOUR sailing journey or even launching your own charter business. ๐Ÿ‘‰ ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Full episode Podlink: https://tinyurl.com/SaltyPodcastHugo #SaltyAbandon #SaltyPodcast #BelowDeck #Sailing #superyachts What would you do if you lost your 9โ€“5 job, hit rock bottom, and found yourself backpacking across the world? For Hugo Ortega, bosun on Below Deck Season 12 and founder of Superyacht Sunday School, that moment became the turning point that launched him into the superyacht industry. In this episode of the Salty Podcast, Hugo shares how being laid off led him to a hostel in Thailand, where he met a yacht deckhand who showed him a life he never knew existed โ€” the yachtie lifestyle. From deckhand to bosun to superyacht captain, Hugo explains how he built a career at sea, what yacht crew life is really like, and how the skills learned in the yachting industry can apply to sailing around the world, starting a charter business, or simply gaining more freedom on the water. We also talk about Hugoโ€™s work with Superyacht Sunday School, where heโ€™s trained over 300 aspiring yacht crew members and helped them break into the yacht industry. If youโ€™ve ever wondered what it takes to work on a yacht, live the yacht crew lifestyle, or transition from backpacking to boating, this conversation will open your eyes to a whole new world. ๐Ÿ‘‰ ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ Full episode Podlink: https://tinyurl.com/SaltyPodcastHugo

โ–บ Cruise in Multihulls World Special Issue Power N21: https://www.multihulls-world.com/articles-catamaran-trimaran/ibiza-barcelona-300-nautical-miles-on-a-leen-56 โ–บ Full test in Multihulls World Special issue N16: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/motor/leen-56-welcome-aboard-an-ocean-going-vessel โ–บ 300 nm aboard one of the very rare motor trimarans on the market NEEL Trimarans, born in 2009, can claim to be the only manufacturer to offer large production trimarans - 30 units are produced every year. This new brand of powered trimarans called LEEN (a clever reflection of Neel, being named after the owner and founder of the yard, Eric Bruneel). The first model launched (before the 72 and now the very new the 51) is therefore the LEEN 56, characterized by the two floats significantly shorter at the bows compared to the central hull, and by a platform of large surface-area, topped by an imposing flybridge. The advantage of these new ocean-going multihulls is their very low drag: consumption will be limited to 2 liters (just over ยฝ US gal) per mile at cruising speed (9 knots). The diesel engine in the central hull can be supported by two electric pods - one in each hull - to facilitate maneuvering in port and for leaving an anchorage with the greatest discretion. We were able to sail aboard hull #2 for 300 miles from Ibiza to Barcelona. โ–บ TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Builder: Leen Trimarans Architects: Nivelt and Frutschi Overall length: 56โ€™1โ€ (17.10 m) Beam: 27โ€™1โ€ (8.25 m) Draft: 4โ€™3โ€ (1.30 m) Light displacement: 48,500 lbs (22 t) Water: 215 US gal (825 l) Fuel: 1,520 US gal (6,000 l) Motor: 305 HP Cruising speed: 9/10 knots Max speed: 11.5 knots Cabins: 3 to 6 CE Certification: A โ–บ Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld โ–บ Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests!
