The Strike 15 has folding outriggers. This video shows a mock up of the unfolding system. The hulls and beams are real, but clearly unfinished. However the beambolts and attachments are temporary. Trailing width is 2200, approx 7ft The outrigger unfolds itself because the boat is on a slight slope, so gravity is forcing it to open. The River Class is the oldest class racing on Strangford Lough and the fleet of 12 boats which first raced at Royal Ulster Yacht Club have now moved to Strangford Lough Yacht Club (SLYC). The boats were designed by naval architect Alfred Mylne and their origins trace back to 1919 when Belfast Lough sailors were looking for a simple and elegant one-design class to race. The pre war Mylne designs have lovey long line that making them timeless beauties amongst classic boat fleets. The owner of these timeless racer maintain traditions of the early days of racing ensure that the boats continue to race hard under strict one design rules ignoring the temptation to allow modern ropes and sail clothes to alter a formula that was worked so well for over a century of racing. As classic yacht racing has become more popular it is hard to go past the River class which has so much to offer.
