I tried to figure out if there were any MPA areas near me, and discovered that as far as I could tell, I was no longer allowed to go fishing in the Chesapeake Bay, the Atlantic Ocean, or for that matter, anywhere else between Maine and Florida. Fortunately, what the government does poorly, independent businesses often do well. Enter FishAlerts, an app that lets you see your exact position and the position of MPAs, on your phone or tablet. Let's check out how it works. The app makes it easy to see exactly what restrictions you may or may not be under, when fishing in any given location. It also includes some handy fishing data, like tides and currents and weather data. Plus it works with the whole social media thing, giving you a quick way to snap off a fish pic and zip it over to Facebook and Twitter. And just for the record, yes—you can still fish in the Chesapeake and the open Atlantic, from Maine clear on down to Florida.

Dee Caffari explains what a 7th circumnavigation means to her after the team aboard The Famous Project crossed the line off Ushant to set a new record for the first all female crew to complete a non-stop lap of the planet in the Jules Verne. Their performance in a boat that is clearly of a very different generation to the current crop of foiling machines and requires the crew to sail it in a more conventional way, makes for a fascinating story. When it comes to global records, it’s easy to simply focus on the first and the fastest and disregard any trip that doesn't meet this binary challenge. But when you look at the number of failed attempts at just completing the course, whatever the gender make up in the crew, simply completing it is a huge achievement. Their trip was successful because of their determination and resilience above anything else and their story is a fascinating one. ⚓ We still shout at each other when we drop anchor and then act like nothing happened afterwards 😆 ⛵ I (Greta) still question if the boat will actually turn back upright when we start heeling 🍜 Sometimes offshore “dinners” are just cup noodles and that is totally fine 🛠️ We have clear job assignments that have not really changed in the last 7 years 🧽 We procrastinate when it comes to scrubbing the hull 🌊 We still have a lot to learn. Sailing is not something you can fully master in a classroom. Some lessons only come from being out there in the elements.
