Os barcos literalmente dão a volta ao mundo e tem como a maior e mais difícil etapa chegar até Itajaí, a única parada na América Latina. São cerca de 12 mil milhas náuticas (23 mil km) somente nessa etapa da prova, que sai de Cabo Verde - África do Sul e chega em Itajaí. Mas engana-se quem pensa que eles farão o trajeto mais curto que seria atravessar o atlântico, eles virão pelo outro lado, passando pelo oceano Índico, pacífico e finalmente chegando ao Atlântico. Dos 5, 4 veleiros continuam na disputa. O GUYOT(EUR) teve um problema estrutural e precisou suspender temporariamente há cerca de 600 milhas de Cabo Verde.
