Our #sailing adventure in #newyork was a unique and challenging experience. Aside from being a bustling #harbour with much marine traffic, the harbour is affected by tidal currents—two floods and two ebbs every day. Learning the current patterns to plan your sail into the harbour is essential, especially if you want to sail up the East River and into the Long Island Sound. 2015 Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race, as seen from Shearwater 45 "Apella". We started 10 minutes after the big boat fleet and this video is about an hour later, as we start to move through the back end of the big boat fleet.
