Take a look inside North Sails’ brand new UK sail loft, which opened its doors today. The loft is based in Gosport, on the southern coast of the UK, and will house a number of global departments under one roof. These include Superyacht finishing andsail production for One Design and North Sails 3Di. Set to be North Sails’ European flagship facility, the loft will enable North Sails to remain at the forefront of sail technology, innovation and manufacturing. Gosport is the first loft in the world to specialize in superyacht sails, and it’s gigantic raised floor – measuring 1,950m2 – is the largest ever built. A team of 9 designers and 82 staff members are aided by state-of-the-art technology and equipment, ensuring sails are delivered quickly, and safely – with no compromises in quality. The space is split into two manufacturing bays, and the main floor is designed to cater to superyacht sail finishing. Measuring 101x30m, the space can accommodate two J-Class headsails and a mainsail laid out simultaneously. The secondary bay is dedicated to One Design sailmaking and Certified Service sail care. North Sails’ Gosport loft will be opened by North Sails Group President, Ken Read, as well as European COO John Welch, and Peter Dubens – Managing Partner of Oakley Capital and Chairman of North Technology Group. Oggi lasciamo st. Lucia per continuare verso sud, vogliamo raggiungere le Grenadine prima di tornare verso nord e iniziare la nostra risalita. Fatti i documenti torniamo a bordo, issiamo il gommone e molliamo il gavitello. Una giornata grigia, che non sempre ha un’accezione negativa. Oggi ci godiamo un po’ di filtro dal sole in più. Arriviamo di notte dopo una veleggiata piacevole e veniamo accolti da un boat boy, simpatico e cordiale, che ci aiuta nell’ancoraggio. Una cenetta tra discorsi e risate e tutti a letto, stanchi e provati. Da domani, Grenadine! A.
