Why doesn't a ship flip over when a wave pushes it sideways? It comes down to two points: the centre of gravity (G), where the weight pulls down, and the centre of buoyancy (B), where the water pushes up. When the ship heels, B moves to the low side — and the two forces form a lever that rolls the ship back upright. Keep heavy cargo low and the lever is strong. Stack it too high, and the lever shrinks — until it starts pushing the wrong way. That's why ship's officers check the stability calculations before every voyage.
