We are enclosing and extending our wheelhouse before winter for protect and so we can move the mainsheet from the top of the aft cabin to above the wheelhouse (better safety and a better sheeting angle). This is the second part of the fabric enclosure and the next prototype frame. We are now living aboard our Rival 38 Centre Cockpit full-time while finishing a refit so we can launch ASAP. 💫 Catherine Chabaud, première femme française à avoir bouclé un tour du monde à la voile en solitaire, sans escale et en course, lors du Vendée Globe 1996-1997. ⛈️ Lors de ce fameux Vendée Globe, alors qu’elle affronte les mers du Sud seule à bord de son monocoque “Whirlpool-Europe 2”, elle traverse une tempête d’une violence inouïe. Les vagues sont si hautes qu’elle ne voit plus l’horizon. Elle raconte qu’à un moment, elle s’est surprise à parler à haute voix à son bateau comme à une personne : 🐋 « Je lui disais : Tiens bon, mon grand. Allez, on y va tous les deux, on sort de là ensemble. » 👍🏽 Ce moment d’intimité entre la navigatrice et son voilier illustre magnifiquement la relation fusionnelle que peuvent entretenir les marins avec leur embarcation, surtout dans les situations extrêmes.
