What is Raiding? At our events, which span four days of sailing, each day's races (or non-competitive group sailing, depending on which boat you're on) are divided between our smaller craft and larger yachts. Routes are set by Matt and most participants are lined up for the starting sequence! Cream tea or a picnic moored up in a cove, the days vary depending on where we sail and the weather of course. Evenings are spent unwinding by the water with a cold drink, followed by a delicious meal and the day's prize-giving, always full of good humour. Some of the hardier sailors stay aboard their Swallow, while others opt for a more luxurious stay in nearby accommodations. Unlike traditional racing, raiding is all about camaraderie, strategy, and skill—without the use of engines. It’s just wind, water, and teamwork! As part of the 2025 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, shortly after the start as the boat passed Bondi Beach LawConnect Owner Christian Beck and Australian swimming legend Ian Thorpe AM honoured those who lost their lives in the recent Bondi terror attack by scattering rose petals. Fifteen yachts representing the race’s organisers, the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia – one for every victim who sadly lost their life during the tragedy - were also part of the memoriam. A host of other competitors joined in honouring those lost on December 14, 2025.
