Spring brings new life; but work still continues. We hope you're all enjoying the brighter nights and longer days! Video by Ronan / @unwisemonkeys & Evelyn WEBSITE https://www.hawila.org/ FACEBOOK https://www.facebook.com/sv.hawila/ INSTAGRAM https://www.instagram.com/sv_hawila/ NEWSLETTER http://eepurl.com/hLy83L Our mission is to transport cargo emission-free and inspire others to act for change. We are currently working on the refit of our sailing vessel Hawila. This structural overhaul will make her fit for the first Transatlantic crossing. Hawila will be sailing 60 tons of organic products as well as trainees across the Atlantic, in an emission-free way, showing that respectful, ethical, and clean transport is possible. This work is possible thanks to people like you investing in shares! Learn more: https://www.hawila.org/cooperative/#share
When it comes to bluewater sailing, having a reliable sail furler is essential. Furling systems allow sailors to quickly and easily reef or unfurl sails as needed, even in adverse weather conditions. Let’s explore the different types of sail furling systems commonly found on bluewater sailboats and the factors to consider when choosing the right furler for your vessel. And, see what we did to compensate for our broken furler (used a different sail) while catching a glimpse of a whale and witnessing Enrique free climb the mast to loosen a halyard. I’m back on the mainland after months on a quiet island in southern Japan. Rush hour. Trains arriving. A different rhythm of life. Yet at sunset, something familiar appears. The same sun that lights a remote island also glows over steel tracks and tangled wires in the city. Different places. Different rhythms. The same light. — Lowell Sheppard is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and author of Longevity and the Art of Community: Lessons from Japan. Through the Never Too Late Academy Longevity Project, he travels across Japan exploring the secrets of long, healthy, independent lives.
Watch the full episode here: https://youtu.be/8FRRAelkFMo We've got a suuuuper cool episode that we've been so excited to share with you. It's probably one of the projects we've gotten the most comments/questions about in the build so far, so I know so many of you have been really looking forward to this one. As you might already know, we've decided to go with spray foam for the majority of the hull for several reasons which we break down for you in the video. The process is VERY interesting and VERY messy, and ended up taking an extra day to get it all done perfectly, and then of course the clean up process was a massive undertaking in and of itself. This was such a fun project and we're so stoked with how it turned out, we hope you enjoy this one! Watch the full episode here: https://youtu.be/8FRRAelkFMo
