Mbuang-Mbuang Giant Clam Park: A Remarkable Marine Sanctuary in Indonesia 🐚🌊 Mbuang-Mbuang is a small coastal village in the Banggai Laut Regency of Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. Along its shoreline lies a remarkable giant clam park, where hundreds of giant clams are protected in shallow, clear waters. It is one of the most unique marine attractions in eastern Indonesia. 🐚 What is the Mbuang-Mbuang Giant Clam Park? It is a protected stretch of shoreline created to conserve giant clams. Hundreds of clams in different sizes, patterns and colours now live here, making it a living underwater garden that visitors can explore by snorkelling. 🌱 Why was the giant clam park created? For generations, villagers in Mbuang-Mbuang collected giant clams to eat. “Here in Mbuang-Mbuang, we eat the clams,” explains local tour guide Arjulin. But there were fears that if harvesting continued, the clams would become extinct. In 2016, the government stepped in and began buying clams from the villagers to breed them, turning the area into a protected site and a tourist attraction. 🤝 How does the park help the community? Instead of harvesting the clams, the village now protects them, and local guides share the story with visitors.
