11 gennaio 2020 partenza della Cape2Rio. A bordo di Almagores 2 saranno 17 giorni di traversata, di regata, di avventure, di foto, di video. Ne ho fatto un diario che ora vi racconto 18 video dalla partenza a Cape Town all'arrivo a Rio. +9 Oggi il comitato ci ha comunicato che è in arrivo una bassa pressione davanti a Rio un po bruttina e consiglia di stare a nord per scavalcarla meglio. Rotta che noi abbiamo scelti gia prima per questo motivo, tenendo d’occhio la depressione anche perché non vogliamo fare soffrire la barca. Fatto strano: Due notte fa nel suo turno Federico ci ha raccontato di aver visto i UFO perché nella notte ha visto delle luce strane. noi che non abbiamo incotratrto ne terra ne nave da gia un po di giorni…Noi ovviamente lo abbiamo preso in giro e chiesto cosa aveva messo nei suoi sigari. Adelaide ne ha pubblicato il racconto sul blog della barca. Sta mattina riceviamo una mail via il comitato di regata di un pilota della SAA (South Africa Airline) appassionato di vela che seguendo il cracker della regata. Aveva segnato la posizione delle barche e durante il suo avvicinamento a Capetown con l’aereo ci ha sorvolato di notte e per farsi nottare ha acceso a più ripresa le luce di atterraggio, che avrà visto senza saper solo Federico. Avendo poi letto il blog e delle visione notturne di Federico, ha deciso di illuminarci un altra volta dandoci spiegazione. Questa storia ci ha molto sconvolti e abbiamo cercato per giorni poi nostro amico pilota nel cielo.

The best-selling Excess 11, which has already seen over 200 examples sold since its launch in 2020, is recognized as a comfortable, seakindly catamaran - as witnessed by its many ocean crossings. But in light airs, it remains relatively heavy and lightly canvased compared to the benchmark in its size, the Lagoon 380. Even in the Pulse Line version (with a taller rig), the displacement was 19,850 lbs (9 tonnes) and sail area 882 square feet (82 m²), compared with 16,000 lbs (7.26 t) and 829 sq ft (77 m²) for the 380, i.e. a sail area to weight ratio of 9.11 m²/t and 10.61 m²/t respectively. The manufacturer has therefore modified the self-tacking jib sail plan to adopt an overlapping genoa - a configuration already in use on the Excess 14. This brings the total sail area to 1,028 sq ft (95.5 m²), an increase of 16.5%, which translates into a new ratio of... 10.61 m²/t!
