Our 40 day, 5555 NM crossing of the Atlantic is just about done. We expect to arrive in Grenada just after midnight on the morning of the 29th. We were able to visit the island of St Helena for 3 days and the island of Fernando de Noronha for 2 days, but otherwise it’s been eat, sleep, sail, repeat. We’ve been on every point of sail and used every sail in our inventory EXCEPT the storm sail. We’ll do a recap soon, but we just wanted to send out a quick highlight. Want more? Discover Drvenik Mali's Hidden Gem: Vela Rina Beach Nestled in the heart of the Adriatic Sea, Drvenik Mali is a small, idyllic island that promises an escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life. This Croatian paradise, just a short boat ride from Trogir, is a haven of tranquility, boasting untouched nature, crystal-clear waters, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Among its many treasures, Vela Rina Beach stands out as a true gem—a place where time seems to slow down, allowing visitors to unwind and soak in the beauty of the Mediterranean. A Slice of Paradise Vela Rina Beach is the crown jewel of Drvenik Mali, renowned for its soft, golden sands and gentle waves. Unlike many other beaches in Croatia, which are often pebbly, Vela Rina offers a rare stretch of fine sand that feels like silk underfoot. The shallow, azure waters make it an ideal spot for families, providing a safe environment for children to play and explore the sea. Embrace the Serenity One of the most alluring aspects of Vela Rina Beach is its unspoiled, serene environment. Drvenik Mali has managed to retain its traditional charm, with very little commercial development. The beach is free from large crowds and loud beach bars, making it the perfect destination for those seeking a peaceful retreat. You can lay down your towel, bask in the sun, and listen to the gentle lapping of waves without any interruptions. Activities for Everyone While relaxation is the main attraction at Vela Rina, there are plenty of activities for the more adventurous. The clear waters are perfect for snorkeling, allowing you to discover the vibrant marine life that calls this area home. Kayaking and paddleboarding are also popular, offering a unique perspective of the island’s stunning coastline. For those who enjoy a bit of exploration, a walk around Drvenik Mali reveals charming stone houses, olive groves, and ancient paths that lead to breathtaking viewpoints. Taste the Local Flavor No visit to Vela Rina Beach would be complete without sampling the local cuisine. The island’s small, family-run konobas (traditional Croatian taverns) serve up fresh seafood, caught daily by local fishermen, alongside hearty Dalmatian dishes. Pair your meal with a glass of locally produced wine, and you have the perfect recipe for a memorable dining experience. One of the joys of Drvenik Mali is its simplicity, and nowhere is this more evident than in its food—authentic, fresh, and delicious. Tips for Your Visit Bring Essentials: While there are a few small shops on the island, it’s best to bring any essentials with you, especially if you plan to spend the day at the beach. Respect the Environment: Drvenik Mali is an eco-friendly destination, so be mindful of your impact. Take any trash with you, and avoid disturbing the local wildlife. Stay a While: If you have time, consider staying overnight on the island. The peaceful evenings, star-filled skies, and the sound of waves make for an unforgettable experience. Final Thoughts Vela Rina Beach on Drvenik Mali is more than just a beach—it's a sanctuary of natural beauty, relaxation, and simple pleasures. Whether you're a solo traveler, a couple, or a family, this hidden gem offers something for everyone. In a world that often feels too fast-paced and chaotic, a visit to Vela Rina is like stepping back in time to a place where life is simpler and the beauty of nature takes center stage. So, pack your bags, leave your worries behind, and let the tranquil shores of Vela Rina Beach refresh your soul.
