Video of our boating trip on the Silver River and the Ocklawaha River in Ocala, Florida. The Silver River Springs are the largest artesian springs in the world. Ocala, Florida, is known as the "Horse Capital of the World" because it has more horses than any other county in the United States. On the full version of this video: https://youtu.be/np4Y2tWLSY4?si=cMFGyz7M6gNHFZe4 at minute 5:30 along the Ocklawaha River we think we heard the wild monkeys: "Yes, there are wild rhesus macaque monkeys in Silver Springs State Park in Florida: Origin - The monkeys are native to Asia and were released into the park in 1938 by a boat tour operator to attract tourists. Population - There are an estimated 400 monkeys in the park at any given time. They can be found roaming the riverbanks and trees along the Silver River. Behavior - The monkeys can be aggressive and nasty and may chase people down for long periods of time. They can also get aggressive if people try to feed them or get too close."

[Quello che vedete nel video è il montaggio di alcune riprese fatte di sfuggita, perché volevamo stare nel momento e non infastidire nessuno.] Oggi, nel pomeriggio, abbiamo fatto una passeggiata nei pressi del porto. Non avevamo grosse aspettative e quello che abbiamo visto andava oltre la nostra immaginazione. È stato un pomeriggio di immersione totale nella cultura locale, con la sua musica (a volumi ingestibili), i colori, i gesti, i cibi, le abitudini. Provenendo da un ambiente molto più freddo nel clima e nei modi, inizialmente ci siamo sentiti spaesati, ma piano piano abbiamo capito che in quel fare apparentemente losco si celava una popolazione cordiale. D’altra parte in questi giorni le uniche due persone con cui abbiamo interagito sono state di una gentilezza e disponibilità rare. Disclaimer: saranno tutti così? Per rispondere basta chiedersi: noi italiani possiamo definirci tutti in un modo? Ovviamente no. Noi riportiamo la nostra esperienza diretta, lasciamo perdere le generalizzazioni :) Il pomeriggio comunque è passato in fretta e la nostra passeggiata lungo il viale dominicano ci ha ben presto riportati su un pontile conosciuto. Quello che ci portiamo a casa di oggi è: densità di persone e decibel della musica che hanno raggiunto dei livelli indescrivibilmente alti. E che il mondo è un posto incredibilmente grande e ricco di usi molto distanti gli uni dagli altri. Solo noi possiamo decidere con che occhi guardarli. A domani Camilla
