What Sailing means to me. Sailing is a source of inspiration and humility, it teaches attentiveness, anticipation, resourcefulness, patience and prioritisation. The choice that we made to take a leap of faith and buy a sailboat has led to countless beautiful experiences and over time, we have grown to understand more about ourselves, each other, our boat & mother nature. We live our days on the ocean under the sky, moon, stars and sun, we witness the change of tides daily until it is clockwork in our brain. There's still a mountain of learning to be done, but today, we celebrate our growth. Chapter by chapter we turn the pages of our own syllabus trying to better ourselves by 1% everyday. "At first I was afraid I was petrified." Overtime, with practice and repetition, with knowledge we have gained through experience, fears are replaced by anticipation and I look forward to the growth ahead of us aboard Ujud as sailors.

Wir, Emely und Tjark, haben uns den Traum vom eigenen Segelboot erfüllt, eine Maxi 84, relativ spontan und ohne das ganz große Geld. Wir nehmen dich mit auf unsere Reise von blutigen Anfängern zu hoffentlich passablen Seglern. Getauft wurde sie auf den stolzen Namen Meera. Nach dem ersten Winterlager mit der Überarbeitung des Unterwasserschiffs, sind wir 2022 in unsere erste Segelsaison gestartet. Also kommt mit auf unsere Reise die Welt zu erkunden, für den Anfang erstmal die Ostsee. Da wir noch echte Rookies sind, müssen wir erstmal lernen zu Segeln und was es heißt abhängig von der Natur zu sein. Bevor es in die weite Welt hinaus geht, liegt noch ein Berg an Arbeit vor uns. On most boats it is important to have the head of the mainsail as close to the top of the mast as possible. Furthermore it must also be quick to attach and disconnect the main halyard, even with cold and wet fingers. So a shackle or a bowline are not the best solutions. The best is the method is the one shown in this video. The bobble is nice, but not strictly necessary. A double figure of 8 knot (figure of 16?) will do. The bobble or knot is never removed so you cannot lose the halyard through the mast. I usually shorten the main halyard a few cm/in at the start of each season to move the wear spots.
