BoatUS managing editor Rich Armstrong checks out the 26-foot Eelex 8000 electric boat from X Shore during the 2022 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The clean, minimalist Scandinavian design is inspired by nature. It was modeled after the robust head and sleek, streamlined body of an eel. More than 10 layout designs are available, meaning it can be outfitted for whatever type of boating you love including fishing, entertaining, diving, or watersports. With a range of 100 nautical miles, it has a top speed of 30+ knots and a cruising speed of 20 knots. High-tech features include a geofencing anti-theft app, a wireless MOB built into a watch, and 24-inch MFD that keeps you on top of everything onboard the boat. Starting price is $329,000. https://xshore.com/us/eelex-8000 🚩Enjoy this video? This is the sail we hope to never use. Ever. But like so many other safety measures, it gives us peace of mind just knowing it’s there. It’s a storm jib — 🧡bright orange🧡 so that if we ever do need it, visibility won’t be a problem (because that’s definitely a moment we’ll want to be seen). It’s designed to be set over our furling system where the genoa normally lives, so we don’t have to wrestle down a huge sail on deck in the middle of a storm. Just roll out the storm jib, and it’s ready ⛵️ No, we hadn’t seen one like it before either. But it makes a whole lot of sense now. Have you seen one like this before?

CLUB MARINE TV YouTube Channel https://youtu.be/Wej46SSqlsw For some time now Peter Harburg’s Black Jack – the lightest of the super maxis racing to Hobart - has been touted as the one to watch, particularly if the race turns up some lighter air phases, as it frequently does. In this interview, recorded just after Black Jack’s win in the SOLAS Big Boat Challenge, skipper Mark Bradford explains the thinking behind the foil design for the boat, how it’s used and why it needed to be different from the foils aboard Black Jack’s near twin, Wild Oats XI.
