This behind the scenes video gives some insight into why I chose the imagery that I did for this 8 layer handmade reduction linoprint, inspired by Janus, an ancient Roman god, the origin story of the Roman calendar month name of January. This video is part 1 of a 12 part series, I am challenging myself to create one new print per month based on the origin of month names from the ancient roman calendar. To be historically accurate Janus is typically presented as a two headed man, but I put my own artistic twist on this, and I hope you like it as much as I hugely enjoyed making it. Half hot-rod, half Sport Utility Yak, the lightweight Mirage Compass employs Hobie's time-tested MirageDrive pedal system, and new Kick-Up Fins, to conquer the water. Patented Kick-Up Fin Technology takes the worry out of kayaking in shallow, structure-filled waters by automatically retracting upon impact. Outfitted with a breathable mesh seat, the Compass offers maximum stability and an oversized cockpit and flat deck for standing. A sharp turning radius makes this fishing kayak nimble in tight quarters, yet able to speed over open water in stealthy fashion. Kayak fishing features include molded-in rod holders, H-Track accessory mounts and a transducer cavity ready for you to install a Lowrance® fishfinder. For a stealthy look, upgrade to the Compass Camo package that is outfitted with the reversing MirageDrive 180 with Kick-Up Fins, and comes in Camo color.
Sailing looks calm, romantic, and free — until it isn’t. In this video, we explore the real-life disasters and accidents that show just how fast things can go wrong at sea — from the 1979 Fastnet Race tragedy to the Cheeki Rafiki and Sydney to Hobart storm, to modern-day survival stories that remind us why seamanship and safety matter.
