"Columbia Yachts has developed a lifting drive system for the Columbia Carbon 32. The system features a 3-blade fixed prop connected to a Yanma diesel inboard engine. The drive system retracts completely into the hull and is completely water tight and isolated from the interior of the boat. The advantage of this system is that it reduces drag making the boat faster."

In 2005, a tragic incident occurred in Glendale, California, when a suicidal man parked his car in front of a commuter train.
