When purchasing a catamaran there are a lot things to worry about, so the more you know going into the purchase process, the less stress you’ll face. Having a basic understanding of the contract is the first step in the process. The entire IYBA Purchase and Sale Agreement can sometimes be a bit overwhelming for a first time catamaran buyer. Sailboat Upgrade: Replacing Reef Lines in Boom. As new sailors, we are finishing off some sailboat upgrades and maintenance, to get ready for the waters of the San Juan Islands at the first of June. We have just replaced the Reefing Lines in our Boom. We have only two reefing points: A normal first Reef and a Deep Second Reef. We decided it was a simpler solution for us---versus adding another line. Our new cruising yacht Viator Explorer 42 DS has 2x10KW electric motors as propulsion. Those motors can be used as hydrogenerators when sailing. We are testing this feature in this short video. The maximum output is about 21A, which equals about 1KW. But it is still very volatile, so we have to optimize the regeneration process.
