On Sunday, 9 October 2016 racing was cancelled at Royals as gale force northerlies caused damage around Melbourne and the RYCV Marina. Winds of up to 46kts gusting to almost 60kts were recorded at Fawkner Beacon and peaked around 2.00pm, which resulted in several mooring lines letting go as yachts lurched around in the wind and up to one metre waves that lashed against the marina. Swiss skipper Sebastien Schnieter explains the other side of the situation. While there are plenty of collisions in SailGP, some of them pretty major, what strikes me about this one is how shaken both skippers are. Both seem to know but don't say, how much worse this collision could have been in just a metre or so. This is also perhaps the clearest evidence we've seen of the unspoken fear that sits within each and every crew member.
