Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. The LeisureCat 8000 StormCat is designed for serious fishing and diving and with plenty of room and comfort for just lounging around to soak up the sun. The deck is fully moulded with a raised cockpit coaming and moulded side pockets and lockers. Twin large underdeck catch tanks are standard. The forward lounge seats have hinged tops for storage under. A marine toilet and storage area has been incorporated into the driving cuddy. Recommended engine power is 2x150hp to 200hp 4-stroke outboards. It includes our renowned full-length wavebreaker for that soft ride. Many innovative options have been designed to work with the StormCat, such as the "hutch" to cover the foredeck for over-night accommodation, a removable table to turn the fordeck area into a huge sundeck, hidden stove and sink, and a slip-in seat to extended the seating right across the cab.
