In this episode of Sailing Sacred Seas, we say goodbye to the magical island of Ibiza and set sail on our second offshore passage to Mallorca aboard our Liveaboard sailboat, Kaia our Lagoon 440. With full sails and steady winds, we arrive just in time for a golden sunset in the bay of Peguera. We explore the historic heart of Palma, including the stunning Palma Cathedral (La Seu) and the Royal Palace of La Almudaina, before enjoying some authentic Mallorcan cuisine at a local favorite. Back on board, it’s time for some essential sailboat maintenance. We take down our headsail, inspect and lubricate the furling system, and patch a few tears on the leech. With Vika on the winch and Kaia back in shape, we’re ready to continue our journey. Well done to all who were involved in returning this beautiful classic sailing yacht to its former glory. The following series captures the extensive restoration of Brynhilde, a 1958 Fred Parker 10-metre wooden Bermudian sloop, who arrived here at Berthon on the 4th October 2019. She has been in her present family’s ownership for the past 40 years, competing in the Hill Robinson sponsored regattas in the south of France for over a decade, and most recently sailed at the 2021 Monaco Classic Week – La Belle Classe. Arriving for a deck replacement but undergoing broad further works, Brynhilde is a beautiful example of a timeless yacht refitted to an incredibly high standard. Traditional skills were used throughout this project.
