A strong start today for the 49er teams at the Olympic qualifier in Lanzarote. Robert Dickson and Sean Waddilove Team Dickson Waddilove 49er Ireland topped the Day 1 leader-board with Ryan Seaton and Séafra Guilfoyle Out2Win Ryan & Séafra placing an 11-8-8 for the day. Conditions off Playa Blanca in the straits between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura were very unpredictable in the fresh trade-wind conditions with added ocean swell. “It was very tricky with the wind coming off the mountains so a ‘head out of the boat’ day but all-in-all, a great start to the regatta,” commented James O’Callaghan, Irish Sailing’s Performance Director. “There’s a long way to go in this regatta but we couldn’t have asked for a better start.” We'll be posting updates here daily. We arrived just in time to buy more electric tokens from the garage before they closed at 8pm. Then we made it onto the boat with our stuff just before it started to rain. Temperature is due to feel like 1°C tonight so we have been airing and warming the boat with 2 fan heaters (hence the background noise) #BoatRefit #Shorts

Some so-so footage of one of the seals we saw on today's outing. The seal is that black ball in the upper right portion of the frame. At about the 30 second mark he dives and you can see the shape of his body, which looks like a big fat black sausage. The footage isn't so great, but we were close enough that we could clearly make out his the features of his face, and could tell he was looking at us; probably as curious about us as we were about him!
